Throughout October 2022, Chinatown Sydney was brought to life with the Neon Playground festival, which is part of an ambitious undertaking to fight for the survival of Chinatown. The festival featured public art installations, music and food that lined the walkways of the historic Dixon Street.

The artists showcased in Neon playground include Chris Yee, Jason Wing, Joy Li, James Jirat Patradoon, Juune Lee, Amy Wong and myself. We were commissioned to create artworks about our connection to Chinatown which would appear on a series of unique neon gate installations.

My artwork, 爱心水果 / Fruit From The Heart, is dedicated to the act of cutting and serving fruit as a universal love language expressed across many cultures in Asia. The act of carefully peeling, coring, slicing, and serving fruit is a non-verbal gesture of love that often supersedes verbal expressions of affection. My Malaysian-Chinese background has influenced me to spotlight and celebrate South-East Asian tropical fruits such as mangosteens, water apples, starfruits, lychees, lady finger bananas, and, the king of fruits, durian.
